About Jodan Lighthouse
Also known as: Jodan (Sannohama)
Established in 1957, the Jodan lighthouse served the entrance to Kesennuma harbor. It stood on a promontory at Sannohama, marking the east side of the harbor approach. The structure consisted of a 6-meter white concrete post atop a square, 1-story concrete equipment shelter. With a focal height of 9 meters, it offered a geographic range of 30 nautical miles. The light displayed a group flashing white and green signal. The lighthouse was deactivated and removed in 2022.
Why it matters: The Jodan lighthouse guided vessels into Kesennuma harbor, a port important for fishing and local trade, by marking the eastern approach to the harbor entrance.
