Izumozaki Kō Lighthouse
Location & Light Range
About Izumozaki Kō Lighthouse
Izumozaki Kō was a cylindrical concrete tower, 11 meters tall, painted black with a single yellow horizontal band. It stood a short distance offshore from Izumozaki harbor to mark a shoal. The structure served as an aid to navigation, emitting a red flash every 5 seconds from a focal height of 14 meters. Its geographic range extended to 11.6 nautical miles. The lighthouse became redundant due to the construction of an outer breakwater that effectively encompassed the shoal it was designed to mark. Consequently, it was demolished in 2010.
Why it matters: The lighthouse was essential for marking a shoal near Izumozaki harbor, contributing to the safety of vessels entering and leaving the port.
