About Isla Mazorca Lighthouse
This cylindrical concrete and cast iron lighthouse stands 7.5 meters tall on Isla Mazorca, a rocky island 14 kilometers west of Punta Salinas. Its lantern and gallery are mounted on a circular concrete base, with the tower painted in black and white horizontal bands. First lit in 1928, it emits a white flash every 10 seconds from a focal height of 127 meters. The lighthouse is located about 40 kilometers southwest of Huacho, Peru. Access is restricted to boat only, and the site is managed by Proabonos.
Why it matters: The lighthouse warns vessels of the rocky island it occupies, a significant navigational hazard off the Peruvian coast. Its placement helps guide shipping traffic along this coastal route, ensuring safer passage for vessels traversing the Pacific.
