This round, cylindrical concrete tower, standing 11 meters tall, was built in 1976 to mark the end of Ishinomaki's west detached breakwater. Its lantern and gallery provided a green light with a single flash characteristic. The lighthouse was situated at the end of the breakwater, approximately 1.2 kilometers from the port of Watanoha. It guided vessels navigating into the port of Ishinomaki. The original structure was destroyed by a tsunami.
Why it matters: The lighthouse was essential for maritime traffic entering Ishinomaki harbor, a significant fishing and industrial port.
