About Ibuki Kō Lighthouse
Also known as: Ibuki Kō (Aka Saki)
The Ibuki Kō lighthouse, built in 1959, is an 11-meter concrete post situated atop a square, single-story equipment shelter. Painted white, this cylindrical tower stands 13 meters above sea level. It emits a single white flash every 3 seconds, visible for 11.3 nautical miles. The lighthouse is located at the elbow of the outer breakwater for Ibukijima, an island 11 kilometers west of Kan'onji. Its construction material is concrete, and it has been operational since its initial lighting in 1959.
Why it matters: This lighthouse marks the outer breakwater, aiding ferries and local vessels approaching Ibukijima. Its light helps prevent groundings and ensures safe maritime operations.
