About Higo Wada Saki Lighthouse
Constructed in 1962, the Higo Wada Saki light featured a white, cylindrical concrete tower measuring 7.5 meters in height. With a focal height of 17 meters, it displayed an isophase green light. The tower, connected to a 1-story equipment facility, was situated on a promontory and marked a specific point for mariners. The light was discontinued in 2008 and the structure was subsequently removed.
Why it matters: This navigation aid marked a specific point for ships navigating the narrow channel between Amakusa Kami Shima and Hino Shima, assisting in safe passage.
