About Heysham South Breakwater Lighthouse
A cylindrical concrete fog signal building, painted white, stands 4 meters tall at the end of the Heysham South Breakwater. With a focal height of 9 meters, it emits a green flashing light visible for 10 nautical miles. Established and first lit in 1929, this structure resembles a small lighthouse and guides vessels into the Heysham ferry terminal. The breakwater it marks has been damaged by storms over the years, though the light remains operational. It is situated on the east coast of Morecambe Bay, near Lancaster.
Why it matters: This light marks the end of the breakwater for a major ferry terminal, guiding vessels that serve routes to Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, and the Isle of Man.
