Hamasaka Kō North Detached Breakwater Lighthouse
Location & Light Range
About Hamasaka Kō North Detached Breakwater Lighthouse
First lit in 1960, this red, cylindrical concrete tower replaced an earlier light on the North (Inner) Breakwater. Standing 10 meters tall with a focal height of 13 meters, it emits an occulting red light every 4 seconds. The structure, attached to a small equipment shelter, is situated at the east end of the north detached breakwater, marking the entrance to Hamasaka harbor. This light provides a geographic range of 11.3 nautical miles. The site is open to the public, though the tower itself is closed.
Why it matters: Its placement on the detached breakwater clearly delineates the safe channel into Hamasaka harbor, preventing collisions with the barrier.
