About Hamasaka Lighthouse
Also known as: Hamasaka (Yashiro Ga Hana, Yajoga Hana)
This concrete lighthouse, constructed in 1972, stands 10 meters tall on a promontory east of Moroyose. Its white cylindrical tower reaches a focal height of 74 meters, emitting two white flashes every six seconds. The structure incorporates a two-story equipment shelter, which formerly housed a spotlight that illuminated a nearby reef. The lighthouse is situated on a forested ridge, a half-kilometer walk from the Hamasaka harbor. While the site is open to the public, the tower itself is closed.
Why it matters: The Hamasaka light warns vessels of the promontory and the adjacent coast, with its former spotlight indicating a specific reef hazard.
