About Ōhama Saki Lighthouse
Built in 1897, the Ōhama Saki Lighthouse is a 9-meter tall cylindrical stone tower with a lantern and gallery. It stands on a promontory on the east side of Inno Shima island, north of the Innoshima Bridge. The lighthouse was first lit in 1897 and deactivated in 1910, serving as a tidal signal station before being reactivated in 1954. Its light flashes white or red every 6 seconds. The former tidal signal station building has been converted into a popular lighthouse museum, and the site is open to the public.
Why it matters: This lighthouse aids navigation through the busy waterways near the Innoshima Bridge, a significant part of the Nishi-Seto Expressway. It also functions as a museum, preserving local maritime history and drawing visitors to the region.
