Foce Verde Pierhead Lighthouse
Location & Light Range
About Foce Verde Pierhead Lighthouse
This post light, built in 1962, stands on a concrete pierhead at Foce Verde near Civitavecchia. Originally serving the now-deactivated Foce Verde nuclear power plant, the pier later became a site for Italian Air Force rescue training. Although much of the pier has been demolished, the light structure at its end has been preserved. The lighthouse emits a single yellow flash every six seconds. Standing 9 meters tall, the structure's focal plane is 14 meters above sea level and has a geographic range of 11.6 nautical miles.
Why it matters: The light's significance lies in its association with the former nuclear power plant and its use for Italian Air Force rescue training, representing the evolving utility of coastal infrastructure.
