Etel Lighthouse Lighthouse
Location & Light Range
About Etel Lighthouse Lighthouse
The Etel Lighthouse, first lit in 1859, is a red, triangular skeletal mast located on the west side of the Etel estuary entrance. The current structure dates from 1951, replacing a temporary wooden tower erected in 1947 after the original lighthouse was destroyed during World War II. The first beacon was replaced in 1872. Its focal height is 13 meters, and it emits a directional light showing two white, red, or green flashes every 6 seconds. The station's site is open to the public, though the tower is closed.
Why it matters: The lighthouse's directional light is essential for guiding vessels safely into the Etel estuary, a local port and fishing area. Its rebuilding after wartime destruction highlights its strategic value to the region.
