About El Hank Lighthouse
Also known as: El Hank (Casablanca, Dar-el-Beida)
El Hank Lighthouse, a cylindrical masonry tower standing 49 meters tall, was built in 1920 and first lit the same year. Located on a headland at the western edge of Casablanca, Morocco, it serves as the landfall light for the city. The tower features a lantern and gallery and emits a white light with one flash every 15 seconds. It has a geographic range of 20.8 nautical miles. In 2005, the lighthouse was temporarily decorated with elaborate designs, but it was returned to its all-white appearance by March 2006. The site is open to the public, but the tower itself remains closed.
Why it matters: As Morocco's tallest traditional lighthouse and the primary landfall light for Casablanca, El Hank guides ships into the country's largest port.
