About East Vernon Lighthouse
A white cylindrical fiberglass tower, 11 meters high, stands on a square platform supported by piles offshore on the south side of East Vernon Island. First lit in 1928, the lighthouse guides vessels approaching Darwin from the northeast. Its light displays three colors, white, red, and green, according to the direction of approach, completing a cycle every 5 seconds. The tower stands 12 meters above sea level and has a geographic range of 11 nautical miles. The site is accessible by boat, though the tower itself remains closed to the public.
