About Chipiona Lighthouse
Also known as: Chipiona (Punta del Perro)
This cylindrical stone lighthouse, constructed in 1867, stands 63 meters tall on Spain's Atlantic coast. It is located in Chipiona, marking the entrance to the Guadalquivir River. The tower features a white finish and is topped with a lantern and gallery, rising from a four-story square stone base attached to a two-story keeper's house. The light emits a single white flash every 10 seconds, visible for over 21 nautical miles. Its focal height reaches 69 meters above sea level.
Why it matters: The lighthouse is critical for guiding vessels safely into and out of the Guadalquivir River, a historically significant route to Seville.
