Catania Molo di Levante Lighthouse
Location & Light Range
About Catania Molo di Levante Lighthouse
Also known as: #Catania Molo di Levante
This cylindrical concrete lighthouse stood 6 meters tall on the main breakwater of Catania, Sicily. Its lantern and gallery were situated 12 meters above sea level, emitting a white light with a single flash every 5 seconds. The structure provided a geographic range of 11 nautical miles. Originally marking the entrance to Catania's port, it was eventually removed and replaced by a smaller beacon. This interim aid was also later removed as the breakwater was extended. The site is now closed to the public, with a modern post light serving as the current navigational aid.
Why it matters: The lighthouse was essential for marking the entrance to Catania's busy port. Its replacement by a modern post light reflects the evolving needs of maritime navigation and port infrastructure.
