Capo Trionto Lighthouse
Location & Light Range
About Capo Trionto Lighthouse
Established in 1923, the Capo Trionto lighthouse is a cylindrical, tapered tower standing 18 meters tall, featuring a lantern and gallery. Originally painted white, much of its coating has worn away, revealing the weathered structure beneath, though its lantern dome retains a gray metallic finish. The lighthouse is situated on a cape on the west side of the Golfo di Taranto, near Mirto, within the region of Calabria. Its operational period concluded in 2005, after which it became abandoned and began deteriorating. While the site is accessible to the public, the tower itself remains closed.
Why it matters: The lighthouse was significant for maritime traffic navigating the western approaches to the Golfo di Taranto, guiding vessels along the Calabrian coast.
