Cap Serrat Lighthouse
Location & Light Range
About Cap Serrat Lighthouse
The Cap Serrat Lighthouse, constructed in 1890, features a cylindrical tower, 13 meters in height, painted black with a wide white band encircling it below the gallery. The structure, which includes a lantern and gallery, originates from an adjacent single-story dwelling. The lighthouse is situated on a steep cliff face, positioned roughly midway between the cities of Bizerte and Tabarka. Its white light flashes every 10 seconds (Fl W 10s), and it has a documented geographic range of 33.6 nautical miles. A radar tower has been added behind the lighthouse, with a possibility that the light source has been moved to this newer apparatus.
Why it matters: This navigation aid is important for maritime traffic along Tunisia's northern coast, identifying a notable promontory and providing a warning of dangers on the southwestern coast through a red sector.
