This white, cylindrical cast iron tower with a red top stood 9 meters tall, with its light positioned 10 meters above the water. First lit in 1868, it marked the western edge of Brest's commercial harbor, situated at the end of the quay. Its geographic range extended to 10.4 nautical miles, aiding vessels entering and exiting the busy waterways. The structure featured a lantern and gallery, and served for over a century before its demolition in 2008. A new light has since been established at the site.
Why it matters: The lighthouse was important for the safe navigation of commercial vessels entering and exiting the port of Brest, providing guidance at the western quay end.
