Location & Light Range
About Benkei Misaki Lighthouse
First lit in 1890, Benkei Misaki Lighthouse stands on a sharp promontory roughly 5 kilometers northwest of Suttsu. The cylindrical concrete tower, painted with red and white horizontal bands, measures 13 meters high. It rises from a 1-story concrete keeper's house and is topped with a lantern and gallery. The lighthouse emits a single white flash every 8 seconds, with a geographic range of 15.9 nautical miles. The site, including a park, is open to the public, though the tower itself is closed.
Why it matters: The lighthouse is named for the legendary warrior Saitō Musashibō Benkei, with a statue of him located nearby in the park.
