Constructed in 1953, the Ara Saki lighthouse stands on a concrete post rising 12 meters from a 1-story equipment room. Its latticed white concrete tower reaches a focal height of 33 meters. The light emits a single white flash every 5 seconds, visible for nearly 16 nautical miles. The original lighthouse was established in 1903, with the current structure replacing it decades later. It is situated on a promontory at Kamo, about 10 kilometers west of Tsuruoka in Yamagata Prefecture.
Why it matters: This light guides vessels around the Kamo promontory, aiding safe passage along the coast west of Tsuruoka.
