Anbō Kō Lighthouse

Fl Red 4s🇯🇵Yakushima, JPOperational

Also known as: Anbō Kō (Outer Breakwater)

Anbō Kō is a red, cylindrical concrete tower measuring 11 meters in height, with the light positioned 14 meters above sea level. It consists of a round concrete tower affixed to a single-story square equipment building. This marker is located on the outer breakwater of Anbō, the primary harbor on Yakushima Island's eastern side. The light displays a red flash each 4 seconds, detectable up to 11.6 nautical miles. Access to the lighthouse grounds is permitted, but the tower is not open to the public. Yakushima, the closest port, is 8.1 kilometers distant.

Why it matters: Anbō Kō offers necessary direction for vessels arriving at and leaving Anbō, Yakushima's main eastern harbor. Its position on the outer breakwater emits a red flash, marking the harbor's entry and facilitating safe navigation for the island's shipping routes.
