Amura Kō Lighthouse
Location & Light Range
About Amura Kō Lighthouse
Constructed in 1979, Amura Kō lighthouse served as a navigational aid at the western entrance to Amura harbor. The structure consists of an 8.5-meter square concrete post attached to a single-story concrete equipment shelter. Painted red, this square tower was located at the north end of Matsushima, marking the end of the west breakwater. After more than thirty years of operation, the lighthouse was deactivated and removed in 2012. The site remains open to the public, though the tower itself is no longer present.
Why it matters: This lighthouse provided guidance for vessels entering Amura harbor and navigating the west breakwater.
