Akune Kō East Port Breakwater Lighthouse
Location & Light Range
About Akune Kō East Port Breakwater Lighthouse
This red, cylindrical concrete tower was built in 1990 and first lit the same year. Standing 9.5 meters tall with its light at a focal height of 13 meters, it marks the end of a 900-meter-long south breakwater for Akune's east port. The structure flares at the top and emits a red flash every four seconds, visible for 11.3 nautical miles. The lighthouse is situated at the southern boundary of the new port within Akune harbor, guiding vessels into the protected waters. While the site is open to visitors, the tower itself is closed.
Why it matters: This lighthouse is essential for ships approaching Akune harbor, clearly marking the extensive south breakwater of the new east port and preventing them from striking its submerged end.
