About Zonguldak Lighthouse
This cylindrical masonry lighthouse, built in 1908, stands 9 meters tall on a high promontory marking the northeast entrance to Zonguldak harbor. Its lantern and gallery are attached to the seaward side of a one-story keeper's house. The structure emits a white flash every five seconds from a focal height of 53 meters, visible for nearly 20 nautical miles. Originally a wooden tower, it was replaced by the current masonry construction to serve Türkiye's leading coal-mining area. The site is open to visitors, though the tower remains closed.
Why it matters: This lighthouse is important for guiding vessels into Zonguldak harbor, a port historically significant for Turkey's coal industry.
