About Tabarka Lighthouse
Also known as: Tabarka (Jazirat Tabargah)
The Tabarka lighthouse is a 14-meter white tower with a black lantern and gallery, built in 1906 atop a 16th-century Genoese fort. It stands at the highest point of what was formerly an island protecting Tabarka's harbor, near Tunisia's northwestern coast. The lighthouse emits a single white flash every 2.5 seconds. Its focal height reaches 72 meters, providing a geographic range of 21.7 nautical miles. The structure rises from a 1-story keeper's house, and while the site is open to visitors, the tower itself is closed.
Why it matters: This lighthouse is important for guiding vessels into and out of the harbor of Tabarka, a port in northwestern Tunisia. Its placement on a historic 16th-century fort makes it a notable architectural landmark.
