About Samsun Lighthouse
Also known as: Samsun (replica)
This white concrete lighthouse, standing 12 meters tall, was built and first lit in 2008. Its octagonal cylindrical tower, topped with a lantern and gallery, is attached to a single-story building. The current structure serves as a replica of an earlier lighthouse that served the Black Sea coast until its disappearance between the 1930s and 1940s. It emits a single green flash every 2 seconds and has a geographic range of 11.9 nautical miles. Located near the base of the Samsun North Mole, it is part of a significant beach redevelopment project by the city.
Why it matters: The lighthouse is significant as a modern replica that preserves the visual memory of Samsun's original navigational aid. Its location helps define the entrance to Samsun harbor and integrates it into the city's waterfront revitalization efforts.
