About Pénglái City Lighthouses Lighthouse
A cylindrical brick tower standing 10 meters tall, this lighthouse was built in the 1950s to replace a structure destroyed during World War II. It emits a single white flash every four seconds from a focal height of 17 meters, with a geographic range of 12.4 nautical miles. Located behind the industrial harbor at Luánjiākǒu on the southwest side of Pénglái, it faces the Bohai Gulf. The lighthouse was abandoned in the 1990s due to changing navigational requirements. While the site is accessible to the public, the tower itself remains closed.
Why it matters: The lighthouse's predecessor was destroyed during World War II, highlighting the area's historical context. Its operation provided guidance for vessels entering and departing the industrial harbor at Luánjiākǒu.
