A red, cylindrical concrete tower, 10 meters high, stands at the end of the north breakwater in Mar del Plata, Argentina. Mounted on a large masonry observation platform, its focal height is 15 meters. The light emits a single red flash every 5 seconds, visible for 11.9 nautical miles. This structure, built and first lit in 2009, replaced a previous skeletal mast and an even earlier navigational light. The site is open to the public, though the tower itself is closed.
Why it matters: This light marks the harbor entrance, guiding vessels around the north breakwater into Mar del Plata's port.
