About Luótóujiǎo Lighthouse

A hexagonal cylindrical concrete tower, covered with white ceramic tiles, marks the western entrance to the Luótóu Channel. This white tower, standing 8 meters tall, was first lit in 1992. Its focal height reaches 22 meters, and it emits a white light with a characteristic of one white flash every 10 seconds. The station was established in 1983, and the current structure became operational in 1992. It is located on the southern tip of Dàmāoshān, near Dinghai District in China's Zhejiang region. The geographic range of its light is 13.6 nautical miles.
Why it matters: This lighthouse is indispensable for ships entering or exiting the Luótóu Channel from the west, providing critical guidance through what could otherwise be a challenging passage. Its specific location at the southern tip of Dàmāoshān makes it a key navigational reference point.
