About Gāoqiáo Lighthouse
Built in 1955 and first lit in 1955, the Gāoqiáo Lighthouse is a 21-meter cylindrical concrete tower. It was part of a cement plant located on the east side of the Huángpǔ River at a sharp bend north of downtown Shànghǎi. The lighthouse offered a geographic range of 16 nautical miles with a white flashing light. It ceased operations around 2015, with its function taken over by a pair of smaller range lights. The structure is identified by NGA list number 18857 and Admiralty number P3785.
Why it matters: The lighthouse was important for warning ships of the sharp bend north of downtown Shànghǎi on the Huángpǔ River.
