About Cigu District Lighthouse Lighthouse
The Cigu District Lighthouse, built in 1971, stands on a square stone foundation in Cigu township. This tapered, square skeletal tower, painted with black and white horizontal bands, reaches a height of 33 meters. It displays a white light with a characteristic of one flash every 15 seconds, visible for 16 nautical miles. The current lighthouse replaced an earlier structure destroyed by a typhoon in July 1970. The site is accessible to the public, though the tower itself is closed.
Why it matters: This lighthouse marks Taiwan's westernmost point and helps define the coastline for shipping lanes in the Taiwan Strait.
