About Chiutzu Shan Lighthouse
Also known as: Chiutzu Shan (Qiuzishan, Keelung Range Rear)
This cylindrical concrete tower, standing 12 meters tall, was built in 1956 on a breakwater within a southern basin of Keelung Harbor. It emits a green light that flashes once every 3 seconds. The structure has a focal height of 11 meters and a geographic range of 10.7 nautical miles. Originally an operational light, it was deactivated in 1991 but was restored by April 2018. The tower is green in color after its deactivation.
Why it matters: The light guides ships through the southern basin of Keelung Harbor, a critical area for maritime traffic, helping vessels avoid submerged structures and navigate the port's confines.
