The Cayo Perla lighthouse, a 9.5-meter yellow square skeletal tower, was first lit in 1902. This steel structure stands on a platform supported by piles. It provided a yellow flashing light with a geographic range of 4 nautical miles. The lighthouse is situated off the south side of a small cay, approximately 10 km west of Manzanillo. It has been inactive since 2020. The site remains open to visitors, but the tower itself is closed.
Why it matters: The lighthouse's establishment in 1902 reflects the historical development of maritime safety infrastructure in the Granma region.
