About Báishājiāo Lighthouse
Also known as: Báishājiāo (Báishā Jiāo, White Sand Reef
A cylindrical white concrete tower with a lantern and gallery stands on a round stone base, standing 20 meters tall. Located on a dike off the point of Baisha Men near the Meilan District of Hainan, China, it was built and first lit in 2013. The lighthouse emits a single white flash every six seconds. Its construction replaced an earlier light that became obsolete due to extensive land reclamation. The original lighthouse on this site was demolished to accommodate these changes, making way for this contemporary structure.
Why it matters: The Báishājiāo Lighthouse symbolizes coastal transformation, with its 2013 construction reflecting significant land reclamation that reshaped the Baisha Men area.
