Kelsey Pfendler Rows Solo from Monterey to Hawaii as First American Woman

Kelsey Pfendler was on course to reach Honolulu on July 4 after rowing solo from Monterey, California across roughly 2,400 miles of open Pacific, a crossing that would make her the first American woman to complete the route under oar.

She left May 21. By July 3 she had covered more than 2,200 nautical miles. Her estimated arrival at Ala Wai Harbor was July 4.

Pfendler, 31, rowed without a crew. Flack Broadcasting reported she was on track to break the women's solo record for the route, held at 86 days by Lia Ditton.

She is from Lee, New York.
