French court fines shadow fleet tanker Tagor €1 million

French court fines shadow fleet tanker Tagor €1 million

A French court in Brest fined the owner of the tanker Tagor one million euros on July 2, closing a case that had kept the tanker in Douarnenez Bay since late May. The owner is registered in the Marshall Islands. In a plea agreement, the company admitted guilt on charges of sailing without a valid flag and refusing to comply with French authorities.

French Navy personnel stopped the Tagor on May 31 during an Atlantic flag-control operation. The tanker had flown flags from Madagascar, Marshall Islands, and Panama. It is connected to the trade in Russian oil and is subject to US and EU sanctions.

The fine paid, the Tagor cleared Douarnenez Bay.
