About Victoria Island Lighthouse
The current Victoria Island Lighthouse, a 12-meter steel square pyramidal skeletal tower, was built in the 1980s. It carries two rectangular red and white daymarks and exhibits a white flash every four seconds. The focal height of the light is 18 meters, offering a geographic range of 12.7 nautical miles. This structure replaced an earlier wooden tower of the same shape that was first lit in 1887. The lighthouse stands on the western tip of Victoria Island, approximately 16 kilometers northeast of the U.S. border.
Why it matters: This lighthouse guides vessels around the western extremity of Victoria Island, a key navigational point near the U.S. border, and marks a turning point for maritime traffic.
