About Addenbroke Island Lighthouse
A cylindrical concrete tower, 8 meters high and painted white, was built in 1998 on Addenbroke Island. It replaced a steel skeletal tower erected in 1968, which itself succeeded the original lighthouse first lit in 1914. The light is situated 24 meters above sea level and emits a white flash every 5 seconds. This station is located in Fitz Hugh Sound, on the east side of Calvert Island, approximately 100 km north of Port Hardy. The site is open to the public, though the tower is not accessible.
Why it matters: The station's light guides vessels through Fitz Hugh Sound, a key navigational corridor for coastal shipping in British Columbia.
