About Victoria Beach Lighthouse
Constructed in 1901, the Victoria Beach Lighthouse is a square pyramidal wood tower standing 8 meters tall, painted white with red trim. It was built to mark the east side of Digby Gut, a significant channel connecting the Bay of Fundy to Annapolis Basin. The lighthouse has a focal height of 17 meters and emitted a green light with a quick flash every 16 seconds. Its geographic range was 5 nautical miles. The structure served mariners for over a century before ceasing operations in 2015. The site is open to the public, but the tower itself is closed.
Why it matters: This lighthouse is significant for marking the critical navigational channel of Digby Gut. Its square pyramidal wood tower represents an increasingly rare architectural style from early 20th-century Canadian lighthouses.
