About Sydney Bar Lighthouse
A white, cylindrical concrete and steel tower stands 5 meters tall at Sydney Bar, Nova Scotia. Its focal plane is 9 meters above the water, emitting a green flashing light with a geographic range of 10 nautical miles. The current structure, built in 1973, replaced earlier lights destroyed by severe storms. It consists of a square concrete building mounted on a concrete pier, which is surrounded by sheet-steel pilings. This design was necessary due to the exposed nature of its location at the end of the southeast bar in Sydney Harbour.
