The Strawberry Island Lighthouse was built in 1881. It is a square pyramidal wood tower, 12 meters high, painted white with red trim. The structure includes a lantern and gallery and is attached to a 1-1/2 story wood keeper's house. Its focal plane reaches 14.5 meters, providing a geographic range of 11.7 nautical miles. The light emits a white flash every 4 seconds. The lighthouse is located at the northern tip of Strawberry Island, about 8 km east of Little Current.
Why it matters: This lighthouse guards the eastern approach to the Little Current Strait, a key navigational channel connecting the mainland to Manitoulin Island.
