About Spencer's Island Lighthouse
A square pyramidal wood tower, 10 meters high and painted white, was constructed in 1904 at Spencer's Island. It is situated on the waterfront along the north shore of the Minas Channel. The lighthouse was deactivated in 1987 but was acquired by the Spencers Island Community Association in 1989. Following restoration, it reopened as a historical museum in 1991 and underwent further work in 1995-96. The tower now displays a continuous white light, maintained privately by the community, and is open to the public.
