About Sand Point Lighthouse
Constructed in 1909, the Sand Point Lighthouse stands as a square pyramidal wood tower, painted white, with a red lantern. It measures 7 meters in height and has a focal height of 7 meters. The lighthouse is situated at the end of a pier in the village of Sand Point, approximately 10 kilometers northwest of Arnprior on the Ottawa River. It emits a white flash, and its geographic range is 9.3 nautical miles. The lantern color was changed from green to red in 2016.
Why it matters: The Arnprior and District Historical Society sought historic monument status for the lighthouse in 2015, recognizing its unique structure and its role as the only surviving Ottawa River lighthouse accessible to the public.
