This square skeleton tower, built of steel in 1986, stands 20 meters tall with a focal height of 28 meters. Its design includes an enclosed upper portion and a daymark featuring a white color with a single red vertical stripe. Located at the northern end of Fox Island, this structure served as the rear range light for the approach to Miramichi Bay. It was situated on one of the barrier islands that enclose the bay, about 18.3 kilometers from Chatham. The light had a geographic range of 5 nautical miles. By 2019, the tower was removed.
Why it matters: This range light was essential for guiding ships safely through the approach to Miramichi Bay, helping mariners navigate shifting channels and avoid shoals.
