About Port George Lighthouse
Constructed in 1888, the Port George Lighthouse is a square pyramidal wood tower standing 7.5 meters tall. It is painted white with red trim and features a lantern and gallery. The lighthouse has been moved three times, reaching its current location in the 1930s. Originally displaying a red light, it has been officially inactive since 1999, though an unofficial red light continues to operate. A preservation group formed in 1997 took ownership in 2002 and undertook restoration work, including replacing shingles and repainting in 2016.
