About Port Bickerton Lighthouse
A white, pepperpot-style concrete and wood tower was built at Port Bickerton in 1930. This structure, standing 7 meters tall, had a focal height of 20.5 meters and was first lit in 1963. It displayed an isophase white light on an 8-second cycle, with a geographic range of 13.3 nautical miles. The original lighthouse was destroyed by fire, ending its operational service. The site is now open to the public, but the tower itself is closed.
Why it matters: The lighthouse guided local fishing vessels and coastal traffic for decades, underscoring the need for navigational aids in the region.
