About Pointe de l'Ouest Lighthouse
Also known as: Pointe de l'Ouest (West Point)
A square pyramidal skeletal tower stands 18 meters tall at Pointe de l'Ouest, the westernmost point of Anticosti Island in Quebec. Its focal height is 27 meters, and it emits a white flash every 5 seconds, visible for 14.7 nautical miles. This current structure, built in 1967, replaced an earlier stone tower from 1858. Keeper's cottages were added in the 1950s. The site is open to the public, though the tower itself is closed.
Why it matters: The lighthouse marks the western extremity of Anticosti Island, guiding vessels away from hazards in the area.
