About Manitowaning Lighthouse
The Manitowaning lighthouse, built in 1885, features a 10-meter tall square pyramidal wood tower clad in white-painted cedar shingles with red trim. Its lantern room is red. The focal plane stands at 24.5 meters. The structure was renovated in 1995, and further refurbishment and repainting occurred in 2017 to mark Canada's 150th anniversary. It projects a single green flash (F G) with a geographic range of 14.2 nautical miles. Public access is permitted to the site, but the tower itself remains closed. It is located near Assiginack Township, Ontario, Canada.
Why it matters: This navigation aid marks the entrance to Manitowaning Bay, assisting vessels approaching from the direction of Little Current. Its recognizable design contributes to the local landscape.
