About Liscomb Island Lighthouse
Built in 1921, the Liscomb Island Lighthouse is a white, octagonal concrete structure that measures 14 meters in height. Its lantern and gallery, painted red, sit atop the main white tower. The light's focal plane is 21.5 meters above water. Located on Cranberry Point, the southwest edge of Liscomb Island, it serves as a marker for the entry to Liscomb Harbour. The light cycles through a white flash every 10 seconds, visible for 13.5 nautical miles. The keeper's dwellings were taken down in 1986. Visitors can reach the site by boat, but entry into the tower is not permitted.
Why it matters: This functioning lighthouse provides navigation aid for ships entering Liscomb Harbour, assisting local fishing operations and pleasure craft along the Nova Scotia shoreline.
